Hellenic Train invests €308 million in new electric and hybrid trains
Hellenic Train is undertaking a major fleet modernization program, highlighted by its participation in the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair. The company has signed a €308 million contract with Alstom for the procurement of 23 new Coradia Stream electric trains. This investment, which is entirely self-funded by Hellenic Train, represents the largest private investment in Greek land transport.
The new fleet will consist of 12 intercity trains for the Athens-Thessaloniki axis and 11 suburban service trains. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, supported by a ten-year technical assistance program from Alstom. Additionally, the company is introducing two new Hitachi Blues hybrid trains.
The Coradia Stream models, manufactured in Savigliano, Italy, feature advanced technology including ERTMS, ETCS, and TCMS systems. Designed for improved accessibility and passenger experience, the trains will include low floors for step-free boarding, dedicated spaces for bicycles and strollers, LED lighting, and enhanced sound insulation.
