Helsinki police investigate death of influencer Olivia Oras
Finnish social media influencer Olivia Oras, 27, died on September 3 following a cosmetic procedure at a private beauty clinic in Helsinki. According to her parents, Reijo and Johanna Oras, she lost consciousness during the administration of anesthesia and was subsequently transported to Helsinki University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Helsinki Police Department has opened a preliminary investigation into the death, categorizing it as aggravated manslaughter. The probe follows a formal request for investigation filed by the family, who allege that negligence or serious errors by the clinic staff may have caused the fatal outcome.
Oras gained international recognition as a teenager, notably appearing in the 2016 documentary ‘The Perfect Selfie’, which explored her relationship with social media. Following the film, she moved to Amsterdam before eventually returning to Finland. The incident has sparked broader discussions in Finland regarding the risks of aesthetic procedures and the professional responsibilities of cosmetic clinics.
