Hemsedalsfjellet highway facing major partial closures

Major roadwork on Highway 52 (Rv 52) at Hemsedalsfjellet will cause significant disruptions for travelers between Eastern and Western Norway. From October 21 until December 17, the mountain pass will be partially closed six days a week to facilitate blasting and improvements to steep rock cuttings.

At peak times, the road may be closed for up to 13.5 hours per day. Specific scheduled closures include 09:00 to 11:00, 14:30 to 16:00, and 20:00 to 06:00. Emergency services and VY Bus are permitted to pass as needed. Because there are no local detours at Storeskar, motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes via Rv 7 Hardangervidda or E16 Filefjell.

Statens vegvesen has expressed regret for the inconvenience, particularly for heavy transport, noting that the work is necessary to improve safety and accessibility once completed next year.
