Henan boy develops chronic kidney failure due to poor diet

An 8-year-old boy in Henan, China, has been diagnosed with chronic kidney failure and severe heart failure following a period of acute kidney failure. The child, referred to as Xiao Bao, requires blood dialysis two to three times per week to survive.

Medical professionals, including nephrologist Yang Ying, attributed the condition to the child's long-term dietary habits. The boy frequently consumed fried foods, such as fried chicken and french fries, and substituted plain water with sugary beverages like bubble tea and bottled drinks. Doctors noted that the boy's creatinine levels were more than ten times the normal limit upon admission.

Health experts warned that children's renal systems are highly sensitive and still developing. They cautioned parents against using sugary drinks or electrolyte waters as primary hydration sources, noting that high sugar content and additives can lead to metabolic issues and irreversible kidney damage.
