Hendra Basir named suspect in sexual violence case against five athletes
Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) has named Hendra Basir (HB) a suspect in a sexual violence case involving five female rock climbing athletes. Basir served as a coach from 2022 to 2024 and held the position of Head Coach for the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) National Training Center in 2025.
According to Brigadier General Nurul Azizah of the Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children, the suspect allegedly exploited power imbalances and the vulnerability of the athletes to commit physical sexual harassment. The incidents reportedly occurred repeatedly between 2022 and December 2025, taking place both in Indonesia—including Bekasi, West Java—and in several foreign countries during international competitions.
Investigators have examined 18 witnesses, including the victims and the reporter, and have consulted five experts in fields such as psychiatry, criminal law, and forensic medicine. Evidence collected includes victim testimony, documentary evidence, and electronic data.
