Hendrik Holt arrested in Dubai after prison escape

Hendrik Holt, a convicted wind power fraudster, has been arrested in Dubai following a month-long international manhunt. Holt, 36, escaped from an open prison in Berlin on August 25 after failing to return from a sanctioned leave.

During his flight, Holt attempted to mislead investigators by posting on Instagram that he was enjoying caviar in Moscow. However, the Osnabrück Public Prosecutor's Office clarified that the claim of being in Russia was a ruse. Reports suggest his actual travel route may have taken him through Poland and Turkey before reaching the United Arab Emirates.

Holt was previously sentenced in 2022 to nearly nine years in prison for organized fraud, bribery, and forgery. His crimes involved selling non-existent wind farms to foreign energy companies. Authorities are now preparing extradition documents to bring him back to Germany.
