Hepatitis A outbreaks reported in Czech Republic and Slovakia
Hepatitis A outbreaks are being monitored in South Moravia, Czech Republic, and parts of Slovakia.
In the South Moravian region, health officials report that cases have begun to rise again in September following a brief stabilization. The epicenter is located in Brno and its surrounding areas, with 502 cases recorded in the region since the start of the year. Officials note that approximately one-third of those infected are unemployed or homeless. Health authorities are collaborating with local governments and transport companies to implement preventive measures, emphasizing vaccination—particularly for food service workers—and hygiene in high-traffic transit hubs.
In Slovakia, a sudden spike in infectious diseases has been reported in the Lučenec district. Specifically, the village of Čakanovce has become a major focal point, accounting for 20 of the 22 new confirmed Hepatitis A cases reported over a 14-day period. In response, hygienists have implemented strict measures, including mandatory vaccination for close contacts, 50-day medical supervision, and deep disinfection of affected homes and facilities.
