Heraklion: 12-year-old injured in dog attack
A 12-year-old boy was injured in a dog attack on Thursday night in the Kaminia area of Heraklion, Crete. The victim sustained multiple bites and injuries to his left side, hip, and back, and was transported to the University General Hospital of Heraklion for medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances under which a large male mixed-breed dog escaped the control of a 28-year-old woman who was walking it. The dog belongs to her 25-year-old brother. Following the incident, police arrested the 28-year-old woman, and administrative fines were issued to both her and the dog's owner.
Local reports and the victim's mother suggest the animal may have exhibited aggressive behavior in the past, including a previous alleged attack on another child in the neighborhood. This incident marks the second dog attack involving a child in Heraklion within less than two weeks, following a separate incident on August 16.
