Heraklion police arrest three for telephone fraud ring
Police in Heraklion have dismantled a criminal group involved in a series of telephone scams. Three individuals—a 23-year-old man and two women aged 31 and 36—were arrested following investigations into four successful fraud cases and one attempted scam.
Between October 3 and October 13, 2026, members of the group contacted residents in various areas of Heraklion, impersonating employees of the electricity distribution company, HEDNO (DEDDIE). They convinced victims to move cash and jewelry to unmonitored locations outside their homes. Other members of the gang, acting as collectors or drivers, would then arrive at these locations to steal the items.
Through this method, the group successfully stole 22,460 euros and an undetermined amount of jewelry. During the operation, police intercepted the group's vehicle and conducted a search of a residence in the Hersonissos municipality, where they seized five mobile phones and 400 euros. The suspects face charges of forming a criminal organization, fraud, and aggravated theft.
