Heraklion windsurfer Nikos Chalkiadakis found dead in Crete

The search for 71-year-old windsurfer Nikos Chalkiadakis has ended tragically after his body was discovered in the sea near Gouves, Heraklion. Chalkiadakis, a prominent businessman and experienced athlete, went missing on Monday, August 31, while windsurfing in the Ammoudara area.

Following his disappearance, a multi-day search operation was launched, involving the Hellenic Coast Guard, the Hellenic Rescue Team, diving vessels, and aerial assets from both the Coast Guard and FRONTEX. On Tuesday, his windsurf board was located floating approximately 1.5 nautical miles south of Dia.

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 3, swimmers spotted a body floating in the water near the Amirandes hotel. The Hellenic Coast Guard was alerted at 6:30 PM, and the body was subsequently identified by relatives through his watch and pendant.
