Herbapol-Lublin recalls ‘Pokrzywa’ herbal tea due to toxic contamination
The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) has issued an urgent public warning regarding the ‘Pokrzywa’ herbal tea from the ‘Zielnik Polski’ brand, produced by Herbapol-Lublin S.A. Laboratory testing conducted by the National Institute of Public Health PZH revealed concentrations of pyrrolizidine alkaloids that significantly exceed legal limits.
These alkaloids are natural toxins produced by weeds that can contaminate herbal raw materials. Experts warn that these substances are genotoxic and carcinogenic, posing a real threat to human health by potentially damaging DNA and the liver.
The recall is specific to batch number L 0036, with a minimum durability date of 01.2028. The contamination does not affect the company’s entire product range. Authorities advise consumers who have purchased this specific batch to immediately stop consumption and discard the packaging.
