Herceg Novi civil movement calls for emergency session amid wildfires

The civil movement ‘IDEMOOO!’ has called for an emergency session of the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly following multi-day wildfires that have gripped the region. The fires, which have burned for three days, have spread from the areas of Bijela and Baošići toward Zelenica, with strong winds complicating containment efforts and threatening additional inland settlements.

The movement is demanding that local officials provide comprehensive updates on the status of fire sites, the availability of personnel and equipment within the Service for Protection and Rescue, and the condition of critical infrastructure such as hydrant networks and fire roads. They are also seeking information regarding evacuation capabilities and the protection of residents' lives and property.

Local authorities have noted that the situation remains difficult and the end of the firefighting efforts is not yet in sight. The movement emphasized that institutions must ensure responders have necessary resources and must eventually address whether the city is sufficiently prepared for such emergencies.
