Montenegro Tax Administration issues €2.5 million in fines

The Tax Administration of Montenegro conducted 2,628 inspections across the country between May 1 and August 24. These operations aimed to verify business legality, ensure fiscal discipline, and combat the informal economy.

During this period, authorities identified 504 irregularities, primarily involving the failure to record goods and services, non-payment of taxes, failure to report employees, and operating without general tax registration. As a result, 743 misdemeanor warrants were issued, totaling 2,528,350 euros in fines. Additionally, 61 taxpayers were issued temporary bans on their business activities.

In the municipality of Herceg Novi, intensified inspections between July 1 and August 22 resulted in approximately 660,000 euros in collected fines. Officials noted concerns regarding the use of dual software for fiscalization and emphasized that while unintentional errors might be met with educational measures, there will be no tolerance for repeated violations such as failing to issue fiscal receipts.
