Heritage Open Days offer free access to UK historical sites

Heritage Open Days are returning this September, offering free access to various historical sites and cultural activities across parts of the United Kingdom.

In Hampshire, English Heritage is participating in the festival with a programme running from September 11 to 20. The theme ‘Everyday Histories’ focuses on local community stories. Scheduled events include a multi-period re-enactment weekend at Fort Brockhurst on September 12 and 13, featuring period camps and weapon displays. Other activities include a walking tour of 18 sites within the medieval walls of Southampton on September 12 and a Silchester Roman Fort walking tour on September 13.

On the Isle of Wight, the Heritage Service is providing free entry to the Museum of Island History and the Newport Roman Villa. The museum will host events on September 12, including an immersive theatre walk centered on the poet Charlotte Mew. The Newport Roman Villa will be open to the public on September 19.
