Heritage Sustainability Prize 2026 announces six nominees

The nominees for the 2026 Heritage Sustainability Prize (Erfgoed Duurzaamheidsprijs) have been announced. For the first time, the jury has divided the awards into two distinct categories: one for the best sustainability project and one for the best process aimed at promoting the sustainability of monuments.

In the ‘Project’ category, the nominees include Dudok aan het Diep in Groningen, Nieuwsteeg 2 in Leiden, De Rode Toren (Tuindorp-West complex) in Utrecht, and the former Poppodium Tivoli in Utrecht. The ‘Process’ category features the Duurzame Monumentenproject in Zeist and ‘Een Warme Jas’.

The prize is organized by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE), the National Restoration Fund (NRF), and the Nederland Monumentenland Foundation. The goal is to demonstrate that heritage values can coexist with modern insulation and installation requirements. The public can vote for their preferred nominees via Monumenten.nl from August 18, 2026, until September 15, 2026.
