Hermosillo expands participatory budgeting fund to 100 million pesos

The municipal government of Hermosillo, Sonora, is implementing the 2026 Presupuesto CRECES program, a participatory budgeting initiative that has increased its fund from 40 million to 100 million pesos. The program allows residents to propose, vote on, and decide the allocation of municipal resources for community projects.

During an assembly in the Lomas de Madrid neighborhood, residents received information regarding available funds for various scales of projects: 1.2 million pesos for specific zones, 4.9 million pesos for sectors, and 20 million pesos for city-wide initiatives. Previous projects funded through this scheme include improved lighting, painting, and the installation of Immediate Response Centers (CRI) to enhance local security.

Political figure Gildardo Real highlighted the program's impact, noting that over 180,000 citizens have participated in the scheme to date, resulting in more than 260 community works. Real also noted that the city has invested 5,365 million pesos in public works since 2021 without incurring additional debt.
