Hermosillo launches electric bus line with 115 million peso investment
Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño has launched the Línea Eléctrica Exprés in Hermosillo, Sonora, marking a transition toward electric public transportation. The project involved an investment of 115 million pesos to introduce 20 100% electric buses into service.
The new line covers approximately 22 kilometers, connecting the north and central areas of the city. It is designed to serve 112 neighborhoods, 113 schools, and six hospitals. The service aims to facilitate up to 2.2 million trips annually with frequent intervals: four minutes on weekdays, 4.3 minutes on Saturdays, and five minutes on Sundays.
This initiative is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 2,417 tons per year. The route will utilize major corridors, including Juan Bautista Escalante, José María Morelos, Solidaridad, and Luis Encinas Johnson boulevards.
