Hermosillo launches hydration brigades amid extreme heat

Authorities in Hermosillo have launched hydration brigades to combat extreme heat, with thermal sensations reaching up to 51 degrees Celsius according to the National Water Commission (Conagua). The municipal government, in coordination with the Secretariat of Health, has distributed over 1,500 bottles of water, 500 oral rehydration salts, and 400 electrolyte drinks at high-traffic locations including bus stops, public spaces, and near the University of Sonora.

Luis Becerra Hurtado, Director of Municipal Public Health, stated that the response involves the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination and the Municipal Preventive Police. Officials are advising citizens to seek shelter between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, wear light-colored long-sleeved clothing, and maintain adequate hydration to mitigate the risks of the desert climate.
