Hermosillo Mayor launches 100 million peso participatory budget program

Hermosillo Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez has called on residents to participate in the CRECES Budget program, a participatory budgeting initiative designed to allow citizens to decide on local public works projects.

Through a series of 72 assemblies, the municipal government aims to train and assist residents in converting neighborhood priorities into formal project proposals. A total of 100 million pesos has been allocated to fund the winning projects. Following the proposal phase, a vote will be held in November, allowing citizens to cast ballots in person, online, or via chatbot using their voter identification.

Daniel García Escalante, the Director of Citizen Participation, noted that the program covers all neighborhoods and rural communities within the municipality. This initiative is described as a unique model of citizen engagement within the state of Sonora.
