Hernán Lacunza announces 2027 presidential candidacy for PRO
Former Economy Minister Hernán Lacunza has announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2027 as the candidate for the PRO party. Lacunza stated he has the support of former President Mauricio Macri, noting, "I spoke with Macri and he encouraged me to do it." He emphasized that the PRO should present its own electoral alternative rather than relying on potential agreements with Javier Milei's La Libertad Avanza party.
While acknowledging the current administration's success in reducing inflation and stabilizing the macroeconomy, Lacunza criticized the government's economic direction. He specifically targeted the drastic reduction in public works, warning that "a country without public works can last three years, but not six, because we are going to start falling into potholes." He also argued that the current economic model lacks growth and fails to generate sufficient employment in sectors like industry and commerce compared to the energy and agricultural sectors.
