Herzegovina-Neretva Canton enforces Sunday retail work ban

Emil Balavac, the Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Environmental Protection for the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, has reaffirmed that regulations regarding the ban on Sunday and holiday work remain in effect. These rules are part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Internal Trade Law, which came into force in November 2024.

Balavac stated that the goal of inspections is to ensure legal compliance, protect workers' rights, and maintain fair competition for law-abiding traders. He emphasized that the introduction of non-working Sundays is a significant advancement for retail employees.

During initial enforcement actions on November 17, 2024, in the Mostar area, inspectors checked 33 facilities. Violations were found in 15 establishments, resulting in 29 fines totaling 35,500 KM. Subsequent inspections on November 24 showed full compliance. Similar enforcement occurred on November 25, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Statehood Day, where 13 entities were found in violation, leading to 23 fines totaling 26,500 KM.
