Hessen allocates €7.9 million to digitize over 300 municipalities
The Hessian Digital Ministry has announced a funding program, ‘kommunal. digital. hessen’, to support more than 300 municipalities in their digital transformation efforts. A total of approximately €7.9 million will be distributed to cities, towns, and districts to implement basic digital technologies.
The program specifically targets financially weaker municipalities, offering funding rates between 70 and 90 percent of eligible expenses. Individual grants can reach up to €45,000. Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus stated that digital administration should not be determined by a municipality's size or financial strength.
Supported projects include the implementation of electronic files (eAkte), electronic payment systems, ID terminals, digital invoice workflows, and AI assistants. The initiative aims to provide legally secure and citizen-friendly digital services across the state.
