Lebanon disputes Israeli map depicting southern territory as Israel
Lebanese officials and Hezbollah have condemned the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs after it published a map depicting parts of southern Lebanon as Israeli territory. Hezbollah described the map as evidence of "Israeli ambitions in Lebanon, its land, and its resources," asserting that direct negotiations with Lebanese authorities are merely a tactic to impose new realities on the ground.
The group called for an emergency session of Lebanon's Supreme Defense Council and urged the government to file an urgent complaint with the UN Security Council. Hezbollah also accused the Israeli military of committing "environmental genocide" by setting fire to forested areas and destroying olive trees in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese MP Melhem Khalaf, following visits to the towns of B'arashit, Safad al-Batikh, and Tibnin, condemned the violations occurring in the south. Khalaf stated that the map was not a "technical error" but a serious political move that coincides with the destruction of homes, water wells, and agricultural land. He called on the Lebanese state to document these violations and demanded that UNIFIL and the United Nations fulfill their responsibilities to protect civilians and prevent the consolidation of occupation.
