Hezbollah Drone and Missile Strikes Kill IDF Captain in Southern Lebanon

Hezbollah fighters intensified attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, deploying kamikaze‑style drones and anti‑tank missiles. The raids targeted Israeli positions around the historic Beaufort (Shuqif) stronghold and other sites such as Yohmor al‑Shaqif, Rashaf, al‑Qantara and Khiam. On 26 March 2026 an Israeli Merkava tank was hit by an anti‑tank missile, killing a captain from the 75th Armored Brigade. Subsequent drone assaults in early April forced Israeli units to withdraw from the Shuqif area and prompted an investigation into how Hezbollah’s fiber‑optic‑linked drones reached Israeli positions at night. Hezbollah’s leader Naim Qassem warned the group will continue confronting Israel despite ongoing cease‑fire talks involving Lebanon, the United States and Israel.
