Hezbollah supporters protest in Beirut over Lebanon-Israel US‑brokered framework deal

After a US‑brokered framework agreement was signed on 27 June 2026 between Lebanon and Israel, dozens of Hezbollah supporters took to the streets of Beirut. Protesters blocked the former airport road, burned tires and rode motorcycles waving Hezbollah, Lebanese and Iranian flags. The Lebanese army responded with tear‑gas dispersals.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem labeled the pact "humiliating" and "null and void," vowing the group would not disarm. Lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah warned the deal could spark internal conflict, while parliament speaker Nabih Berri called it contradictory and impossible to implement. The agreement calls for Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, Hezbollah disarmament, restoration of full Lebanese sovereignty, a trilateral military coordination group and US humanitarian aid of $100 million.

The protest follows months of intensified clashes between Israel and Hezbollah that have killed more than 4,200 people and injured over 12,000 since March. Demonstrators expressed fear that the framework could lead to civil war, underscoring the volatile security situation in Lebanon and the broader region.
