Hezbollah Underground Drone Base Uncovered in Southern Lebanon

Israeli officials have disclosed a sophisticated underground facility built by Hezbollah near the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon. The complex, extending several hundred metres into the mountain and reaching depths of about 29 metres, includes large tunnels wide enough for vehicles, steel blast doors and sections running beneath civilian infrastructure such as a mosque. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the base was constructed over the past decade with direct Iranian planning, engineering and financial support, and is used to assemble, store and launch Iranian‑made unmanned aerial vehicles that have been deployed against Israel.

In response to the growing drone threat, Israel is expanding its anti‑drone capabilities. The Israeli military has distributed training on counter‑drone tactics to all units operating in the north and is fielding systems such as the Drone Dome, which combines radar detection, electronic jamming and high‑powered lasers to neutralise small UAVs at ranges up to 2 km. These measures follow a broader strategy of using electronic and laser‑based defenses to protect personnel and equipment from drone‑borne explosives.

The revelations highlight the deep strategic partnership between Iran and Hezbollah and underscore the rising importance of unmanned systems in the Israel‑Lebanon front.
