Hidalgo announces 20% increase in taxi tariffs
The government of Hidalgo has announced a 20 percent increase in individual public transport tariffs, to be implemented gradually across the state's 84 municipalities in five distinct phases.
The first phase focuses on Pachuca de Soto and Mineral de la Reforma. Under the new scheme, the initial fare (banderazo) will rise from 38 to 45 pesos for the first four kilometers, while the cost for each additional kilometer will increase from 3 to 4 pesos.
As the rollout progresses, the state plans to introduce physical or digital taximeters. These devices will eventually calculate costs based on both distance and time. In areas using time-based metrics, a fee may be added if a vehicle travels less than 15 kilometers per hour or moves less than 150 meters in 60 seconds.
Alongside the price adjustments, the Secretary of Mobility and Transport (Semot) is introducing stricter requirements for drivers and concessionaires. These include mandatory vehicle maintenance, continuous training, the removal of tinted windows, and the visible display of required documentation. Authorities also reported that between May and September 18, 249 ordinary and 61 special operations resulted in 724 infractions and 153 seized vehicles.
