Hidalgo public transport tariff adjustments

Overview

The government of Hidalgo announced a 20 percent increase in public transport tariffs, to be implemented in five phases across 84 municipalities. The initial phase focuses on Pachuca de Soto and Mineral de la Reforma, raising the base fare (banderazo) from 38 to 45 pesos and the cost per additional kilometer from 3 to 4 pesos. The state also plans to introduce taximeters and stricter regulations for drivers, including mandatory maintenance and training.

Following the implementation, Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar warned that operators failing to comply with the new rates would face sanctions, including the potential revocation of concessions. While the government is increasing enforcement of insurance and regulatory requirements, some taxi operators in Pachuca have requested further increases to a minimum of 50 pesos, arguing that the current rate does not adequately cover maintenance or time lost to traffic congestion.
