Hidalgo government announces cultural and artistic funding initiatives

Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar has announced increased support for the arts in Hidalgo, Mexico, through the Program for Artistic and Cultural Transformation and the Program for Stimulus to Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA). The administration has reportedly increased its cultural budget by 150 percent to promote local talent and preserve traditions.

Under the PECDA initiative, 85 projects were selected for support, while 35 initiatives received recognition through the Program for Artistic and Cultural Transformation, involving a total investment of 780,000 pesos. The PECDA program itself involves a bipartite investment of 6.86 million pesos benefiting creators across 33 municipalities.

Additionally, the federal and state governments provided economic stimuli to 10 individuals through the Living Human Treasures (THV) program. This initiative recognizes people aged 65 and older who preserve ancestral knowledge, including traditional medicine, indigenous languages like Ngigua, traditional cuisine, and artisanal techniques such as wood carving and traditional construction.
