Hidalgo state economic and cultural initiatives
Overview
The government of Hidalgo, led by Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar, has implemented various programs focused on economic stimulation and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Initial efforts included calls for coordination between the business sector and various levels of government to foster employment and shared prosperity. Concurrently, the state focused on linguistic preservation through the publication of texts designed to strengthen Náhuatl identity.
Subsequent developments saw a significant increase in cultural funding, with the administration reportedly raising its cultural budget by 150 percent. This expansion includes the PECDA initiative, which supports artistic creation across 33 municipalities, and the Program for Artistic and Cultural Transformation. Additionally, the state has implemented the ‘Living Human Treasures’ program to provide economic stimuli to elderly individuals who preserve ancestral knowledge, such as indigenous languages, traditional medicine, and artisanal techniques.
