Hidroelectrica invests 296.8 million RON in energy storage
Hidroelectrica is investing approximately 296.8 million RON in a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Iron Gates II hydropower plant. The project, which has been awarded to Synergy Construct, will feature an installed capacity of 64 MW and a storage capacity of 434.76 MWh, representing the largest battery storage facility in the company’s portfolio.
According to CEO Iulius-Dan Plaveti, the investment is a strategic move to support the energy transition by building infrastructure that allows for the efficient use of renewable energy and provides flexibility to the National Electricity System. The storage capacity is intended to optimize generation profiles over 24-hour periods and shift energy usage to high-value periods.
