HIFK recruits Sampo Ranta and Olof Glifford
Helsinki-based ice hockey club HIFK has announced two new player signings to bolster its roster for the remainder of the season. The club has acquired forward Sampo Ranta, who joins on a contract for the rest of the season following his departure from the Swedish SHL club Örebro HK.
Ranta brings significant North American experience to the team, having played 20 games for the NHL's Colorado Avalanche. He also has a strong statistical record in the AHL and the SHL, where he recorded 63 points in 121 games. HIFK sports director Janne Laukkanen noted that Ranta provides skating ability, physicality, and leadership experience.
Additionally, HIFK has signed Swedish goaltender Olof Glifford on a one-month loan from HV71 to address a shortage in the goaltending position. Glifford, who was drafted by the NHL's Florida Panthers in 2023, will provide cover while Tim Juelin recovers from an injury.
