High Plains Severe Thunderstorm Threat Targets Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska

The Storm Prediction Center issued a mesoscale discussion outlining a high risk of severe thunderstorms across southeastern Montana, the Black Hills, western South Dakota and parts of northeastern Wyoming. Forecasts call for large to very large hail, strong wind gusts up to 90 mph and a possible tornado threat, with an 80 % probability that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be needed.

A separate forecast for southeastern Nebraska warned that Friday evening storms could bring winds exceeding 75 mph, large hail, isolated tornadoes and flash‑flooding. Cities such as Lincoln, Omaha and Fremont are expected to experience the strongest hazards between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., with heavy rain and high dew points further fueling storm intensity.
