Highways in Jammu and Kashmir face traffic disruptions
Major highways in the Jammu and Kashmir region are experiencing disruptions due to weather, construction, and road damage. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) is facing slow traffic movement due to uneven road surfaces, single-lane stretches, vehicle breakdowns, and the movement of nomadic herds. Authorities have advised light motor vehicle operators to travel during daylight hours to avoid risks from landslides and shooting stones.
Additionally, restrictions are in place for oil and gas tankers on the Digdol-Khooni Nalla stretch during daytime hours due to widening work by the National Highways Authority of India and safety prohibitions regarding inflammable materials in tunnels.
In a separate development, the Uri-Baramulla highway has reopened following a five-day closure caused by massive landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. The reopening follows the restoration of electricity to approximately 50 villages in the Uri area that had been affected by damage to power lines and poles.
