HII expands Massachusetts factory to scale unmanned maritime production
HII has expanded its unmanned maritime systems manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, by 10,000 square feet. This 25 percent increase brings the total site area from 40,000 to 50,000 square feet to meet rising demand for autonomous maritime platforms.
The expanded capacity will support the production of the U.S. Navy’s Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle, which is based on the commercial REMUS 300 design. The facility will also manufacture the REMUS 620 underwater vehicle and support work on ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels. Additionally, the site will integrate HII’s Odyssey autonomy software, simulation, and modeling capabilities.
HII currently employs approximately 300 people at the Pocasset location, having added 50 staff members so far in 2026. The company has a long-standing history of collaboration with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution regarding autonomous underwater technology.
