HII unmanned maritime systems production expansion
Overview
HII is expanding its production capabilities and contract portfolio for unmanned maritime systems. The company increased its manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, by 10,000 square feet to support the production of the U.S. Navy’s Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle, the REMUS 620 underwater vehicle, and work on ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels.
Following these capacity increases, HII was awarded a U.S. Navy contract to build ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels (USVs) as part of the Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel (MUSV) program. This project, which includes design services from Incat Crowther, aims to transition the Navy from experimentation to fleet-scale deployment of AI-enabled, modular autonomous vessels using HII’s Odyssey Advanced Autonomy Solutions.
