Hiker dies after fall in Vall de Boí

A 26-year-old foreign tourist has died following a fall on a steep slope in the Vall de Boí region. The incident occurred near the Estany de Gémena de Dalt while the individual was hiking the route from Caldes de Boí to Besiberri Sud.

Emergency services were alerted at 12:47 PM by a fellow hiker who reported that her companion had fallen into a difficult-to-access area and was unresponsive. The Bombers de la Generalitat deployed a rescue helicopter from the Unitat de Mitjans Aeris, including specialists from the GRAE (Grup d’Actuacions Especials) and a medical professional from the SEM (Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques).

The body was located at 1:18 PM. After an initial assessment, medical personnel confirmed the individual's death. While GRAE members remained at the scene to guard the body, the companion was transported to Pont de Suert to receive psychological assistance. The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken charge of the investigation and the recovery of the body to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
