Hiking fatalities in the Pyrenees

Overview

Fatal hiking accidents have been reported in the Pyrenees region. In the Vall de Boí area, a 26-year-old foreign tourist died after falling on a steep slope near Estany de Gémena de Dalt while hiking between Caldes de Boí and Besiberri Sud. Emergency services, including helicopter specialists and medical personnel, responded to the scene where the individual was found unresponsive.

In the Gavarnie massif near the Brèche de Roland, a 75-year-old hiker died following a 20-meter fall on August 30. Responders found the victim in cardiac arrest, and despite resuscitation efforts, the individual could not be saved. This incident occurred in a demanding terrain that had previously been subject to warnings regarding rockfalls in the area.
