Hillingdon Council opposes Sadiq Khan's green belt housing plan

Hillingdon Council has expressed strong opposition to the draft London Plan proposed by Mayor Sadiq Khan, arguing that the housing targets will “decimate” the borough’s green belt.

The plan requires Hillingdon to build more than 24,000 new homes over the next decade, consisting of 14,750 homes on greenfield sites and 9,280 on brownfield land. Conservative council leader Steve Tuckwell claimed the borough has been “singled out” compared to its neighbors and criticized the plan for failing to account for the potential demolition of 1,000 homes due to Heathrow expansion.

In response, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Regeneration Jules Pipe stated that the targets are “deliverable” and “not disproportionate.” The draft London Plan, which is currently under consultation, aims to address planning, housing, and economic growth through 2037, predicting that London's boroughs should build 558,000 homes over the next ten years.
