Himachal Pradesh faces road closures and snowfall

Severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and seasonal snowfall, have impacted several northern Indian states. In Himachal Pradesh, the first snowfall of the season was recorded in high-altitude areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, including locations such as Chitkul, Sangla Kand, and Kaza. This weather shift has led to a significant drop in temperatures across the region.

The inclement weather has disrupted local infrastructure and transportation. In Himachal Pradesh, approximately 61 roads were reported closed due to rain and landslides, affecting connectivity in various districts. In Uttarakhand, approximately 51 trekkers have been stranded due to adverse conditions in high-altitude regions. Additionally, Rajasthan has experienced hailstorms, and weather alerts for rain have been issued for 17 districts in Uttar Pradesh.

Meteorological forecasts suggest that while rain and snow may continue through September 29, weather conditions are expected to clear starting September 30 as the southwest monsoon begins its withdrawal from the region.
