Himachal Pradesh Monsoon Alerts and Rising Death Toll

The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rain across Himachal Pradesh from July 28 to July 31, following a Yellow Alert on July 27. Authorities warned of landslides, flash floods, water‑logging and road disruptions, especially in vulnerable hill districts.

Between June 30 and July 26, the monsoon claimed 15 lives in the state, 14 of them in landslides—13 in Lahaul and Spiti district and one in Chamba—while a flash‑flood death occurred in Kangra. As of Sunday evening, 135 roads remained blocked, with Kullu, Shimla and Mandi districts most affected. Power restoration reduced disrupted transformers to 44, but water supply issues grew, leaving 38 schemes out of service, 19 of them in Hamirpur. Disaster‑management teams continue clearing debris and monitoring rainfall.

Residents and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay alert to weather updates, and follow guidance from the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and local administrations.
