Himachal Pradesh teachers protest school complex system; CM vows decision before Teachers' Day

Thousands of primary teachers in Himachal Pradesh concluded a 15‑day foot march in Shimla and launched an indefinite relay hunger strike, demanding the withdrawal of the state's School Complex System that groups 15‑20 schools under a single principal. Federation president Ramesh Sharma said, "The new complex system ... is destroying the primary education system that has existed for decades."

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the protesters, assuring that the government will make a decision on the system before Teachers’ Day. He announced the withdrawal of suspensions, departmental inquiries and FIRs against protesting teachers, pledged that the powers of head teachers and block officers would remain unchanged, and said JBT teachers would be promoted to TGT posts while primary school sports activities would restart.
