Himachal Pradesh teachers protest school complex system, government forms review committee

The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has set up a high‑level committee to review the controversial "School Complex System" introduced in government primary schools. The committee, headed by Director of School Education Ashish Kohli, will include senior officials and representatives of teachers’ organisations such as the Himachal Pradesh Primary Teachers Federation (HPPTF). It is tasked with consulting teachers, assessing implementation challenges, and submitting a report to the state government.

Teachers continue to protest, with the HPPTF’s relay hunger strike entering its third day at the Directorate of Elementary Education in Shimla. Despite Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s promise to form the committee, the federation says the strike will persist until the notification introducing the system is formally withdrawn. Earlier protests included a 15‑day foot march and a large rally at Chaura Maidan, drawing thousands of educators and support staff.
