Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates Bongaigaon Medical College

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated the Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital as part of a Rs 711-crore development package for the region. The medical college facility was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 611 crore and is intended to expand access to medical education and specialized healthcare services in the district and surrounding areas.

In addition to the medical college, the inauguration included the opening of a new Integrated District Commissioner’s Office, built for Rs 50 crore, designed to centralize government functions. The Chief Minister also laid foundation stones for several educational projects, including residential and secondary schools in Abhayapuri and Tulungia.

During the ceremony, Sarma emphasized the government's commitment to completing projects initiated in previous years, noting that the medical college's foundation stone was laid in 2021. He stated that the expansion of medical colleges across Assam's districts aims to reduce patient dependence on major urban centers like Guwahati and provide local opportunities for medical students.
