Hindu devotees observe Solah Somvar and Pradosh fasts in 2026

In 2026, Hindu worshippers will observe two major Shiva‑related fasts. The Solah Somvar Vrat, a sixteen‑Monday observance, is recommended to begin on the first Monday of the sacred month of Sawan, 30 July 2026, and continue through 28 August. Devotees undertake the fast to seek marital happiness, prosperity and spiritual blessings, following detailed rituals such as early‑morning ablutions, temple worship, a solemn Sankalp, and offerings of milk, water, sandalwood paste and bel leaves.

The Pradosh Vrat, another Shiva fast, falls on two dates in June 2026: 12 June (Shukra Pradosh) and 27 June (Shani Pradosh). Both days are observed after sunset on the Trayodashi tithi. Participants maintain a day‑long fast, perform evening puja with diyas, flowers, fruits and panchamrit, and chant mantras such as “Om Namah Shivaya.” The fast is believed to bring spiritual awakening, remove past sins and confer protection and wisdom.
