Hindustan Zinc advances ecological restoration and sustainable building goals
Hindustan Zinc has announced significant progress in its environmental and sustainability initiatives. The integrated zinc producer has restored 1,105 hectares of land through reclamation, plantation, and biodiversity enhancement efforts. This ecological restoration is part of a broader climate roadmap aiming to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 per cent and Scope 3 emissions by 25 per cent by 2030.
As part of these efforts, the company has planted 850,000 saplings since 2020. A specific 250-hectare ecological restoration project at the Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter Complex in Rajasthan is being conducted in partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
Additionally, Hindustan Zinc’s corporate head office, Yashad Bhawan in Udaipur, has retained its LEED Platinum certification for sustainable building performance. The facility achieved an overall score of 84/100 under the LEED v4.1 rating system, demonstrating high efficiency in energy, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and resource management.
