Hinteres Sonnwendjoch: German woman injured in 9-meter fall

A 54-year-old German woman from Munich sustained serious injuries after falling approximately 9 meters into a rock crevice near the Hinteres Sonnwendjoch in the Burgstein area, close to Thiersee in the Kufstein district.

According to the Tyrol Police Directorate, the victim's attempt to call for emergency assistance failed immediately after the fall due to a lack of mobile phone reception within the crevice. Unable to free herself, the injured woman was forced to spend the night at the bottom of the rock formation before rescue could be coordinated.

The incident highlights the critical risks of technical communication failures in exposed alpine terrain and the importance of redundant safety measures, such as informing others of planned routes or carrying alternative emergency signaling devices.
