Alpine accident in Tyrol

Overview

A 54-year-old German hiker from Munich sustained serious injuries after falling approximately nine meters into a rock crevice near Burgstein at the Hinterer Sonnwendjoch in Tyrol.

The fall occurred on the evening of September 25. The victim reportedly lost consciousness and regained it around midnight. Due to a lack of mobile network coverage within the crevice, her attempts to contact emergency services failed, leaving her trapped overnight in near-zero degree temperatures while wearing only light hiking clothing.

Rescue operations commenced the following morning around 7:30 AM after two German hikers heard cries for help and successfully placed an emergency call. Kufstein Mountain Rescue and Alpine Police extracted the woman using ropes, and she was subsequently airlifted to Kufstein Hospital with severe injuries.
