Hip Hop Kemp festival cancelled hours before start in Czech Republic

The Hip Hop Kemp festival, which was scheduled to return after a six-year hiatus, was cancelled just hours before its start at the Areál Cosmo near Kralovice, Czech Republic. Organizer Radek Maliník cited low ticket sales—approximately 2,200 tickets sold against an expected 5,000 to 6,000—and unfavorable weather as the primary reasons for the decision.

The sudden cancellation caused significant distress among hundreds of attendees from various European countries, including Germany, Poland, Croatia, and Lithuania, who had already arrived at the site. Many fans expressed outrage on social media, citing travel and accommodation costs.

Controversy has arisen regarding ticket refunds. While Maliník initially suggested refunds would be provided, he later stated that all proceeds from pre-sales had already been invested into the festival and are no longer available. Instead, organizers are offering that current tickets remain valid for the 2027 edition. Performers and local vendors have also reported financial and logistical difficulties due to the last-minute notice.
