Hip Hop Kemp festival cancellation in Plzeň Region

The Hip Hop Kemp festival was scheduled to return to the Cosmo Hadačky site near Kralovice in the Plzeň region on August 21 and 22, 2026. The event, themed ‘Family Reunion,’ was intended to mark the festival’s first occurrence since 2019 and featured five stages with performers including The Alchemist, Digable Planets, and Freddie Gibbs.

Organizers canceled the festival just hours before its scheduled start. In a blunt statement released via social media, they admitted, “We messed up,” citing unfavorable circumstances such as poor weather and insufficient ticket sales. They further noted they were unable to “finish the party with dignity.”

The sudden decision caused significant disruption for hundreds of attendees, including international fans from Sweden, Finland, the United States, Germany, Poland, Croatia, and the Netherlands, some of whom had already arrived at the venue. Following the announcement, police presence was increased at the site to monitor the situation.

Organizer Radek Maliník clarified that ticket sales reached approximately 2,200, falling short of the expected 5,000 to 6,000. In a controversial development, Maliník stated that the festival would not be issuing refunds for the 2026 event, claiming that all proceeds from pre-sales had already been invested into the production. Instead, organizers announced that tickets purchased for 2026 will remain valid for the 2027 edition. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from fans, performers, and local vendors, many of whom reported financial and logistical difficulties due to the last-minute notice.
